Mashaka, a Kenyan-based jewellery designer, is the visionary behind the gemstone jewellery brand Weni Mashaqa. Her journey into design was driven by both heritage and purpose, rooted in a deep understanding of the gemstone industry and a desire to make it more inclusive, sustainable, and innovative.

The idea for Weni Mashaqa emerged when Mashaka identified a critical gap in the market: the widespread wastage of small, less valuable gemstones. Often overlooked and discarded, these stones were rarely seen as suitable for fine jewellery. Rather than accept this as inevitable, Mashaka saw opportunity. She set out to create a brand that would not only transform these neglected materials into high-quality jewellery but also make gemstone pieces more affordable and accessible to a wider audience, both within Kenya and beyond.

By blending art and fashion, Mashaka has developed a unique design approach that results in elegant, eye-catching gemstone jewellery. Her creations highlight the natural beauty of each stone while maintaining a refined aesthetic. Every piece is crafted from sterling silver and thickly plated with 18k gold, ensuring durability and a luxurious finish that elevates even the smallest gemstones into statement pieces.

Mashaka’s work is deeply influenced by her upbringing in the Taita Taveta mining community. Growing up in a mining family, she developed an early appreciation for gemstones and the processes behind them.
